Travel Stipends

Part of WinC’s goals are to promote diversity and integrate people belonging to underrepresented groups into the community. For this, attending in-person WinC events and important cryptography conferences is crucial. As for now, WinC is operating with a small budget. But usually, we have a little bit of money reserved for travel stipends, especially if we organize a WinC event (e.g. a workshop affiliated with a cryptography conference or the Decrypting Diversity Summit). Instead of having a concrete call for applications for each single event, we have a continuous active application process. So, whenever you see a WinC event you would like to participate at, but you are lacking funding to travel to the event, consider applying for a travel stipend. You may also consider applying for conferences in the field of cryptography, even though WinC does not organize a specific event there.

Please send an e-mail to womenincryptography2 (at) gmail (dot) com with the following content:

  • CV
  • One or two paragraphs describing your motivation to attend the event; you may wish to tell us whether you a part of an underrepresented group (e.g. women, LGBTQ+, global south, person of color, (solo) parent)
  • An estimated travel budget (flights/trains/busses, hotel, registration fees, VISA fees)
  • Tell us whether you would be fine if the travel stipend would be on reimbursement basis (completely fine if you say no, it just helps us distributing our difference resources)
  • If you are a student (e.g. Bachelor, Master or PhD), we also ask for a separate e-mail by someone of your choice (e.g. supervisor, co-author, mentor) where they support your attendance to our event.
  • If you need an invitation letter from us (e.g. for the VISA application, for your institution) to attend our event, please send us a list of the relevant information that should appear on it (e.g. address of the corresponding embassy where you will apply, your passport number, date of birth). Please also tell us the latest time you would need the invitation letter from us.
  • If there is an ongoing call for paper/talk submissions (e.g. for our WinC event, for the general cryptography conference), specify whether you submitted something (or plan to).
We will try to confirm reception of the application in a very timely manner as well as an estimation when you will get the notification of your application.
